I like to Read it

At school we had book week. Our theme was "I like to read it" We did different reading and writing activities each day. On Monday I did a rap to 'I Like to Move It' from Madagascar but I changed all of the words to go with reading. We had an author come, pajama day, buddy reading with older and younger grades, and character day. Students and teachers could come to school today dressed as any book character they wanted too. Most of my students came as princesses. Annie and I decided that we would be Thing 1 and Thing 2 from The Cat and the Hat by Dr. Seuss. Here are some pictures of what I looked like, as well as my students.

After school I went to dinner at one of our office boys houses for dinner with Josh(a.k.a The Great White Hunk). Harun- the office is fairly flamboyant, so we were pretty excited to go. It ended up being pretty fun. Josh and I decided that he is a lot more calm when he is at home. This is the four of us at Harun's house after dinner. If you notice, I am a lot taller then everyone. The students at school call me the giant.

Baliversary

This past weekend we had a long weekend so I went to Bali on an anniversary from the time that I went a year ago. Does that make sense? We called it a Baliversary. I went with Mark and Alexis. We spent our time at the beach and the pool. It was really beautiful weather. One night we went to Tana Lot which is a place to go and watch the sunset. It was so beautiful. As we were watching the sun set someone asked if they could take a picture with us. We said okay. 15 minutes later we were done with the picture taking. One lady gave me a bracelet because I took a picture with her. She said, "I want to give you this. Don't worry it was not expensive." She then had a another person take our picture and then he printed and framed it right away. How great is that? After lunch on Monday, Mark went and bought Alexis and I a rose for Valentine's Day. So precious. The best part was that I received it as I was sitting by the pool. Ray asked me to marry him but I said no because I did not think that my mom and dad would approve of me marrying a man that rents chairs on the beach for a living. Best Baliversary ever.

The Bellybutton and The Rainbow Giraffe

We had an art night at our house last night because we wanted to have people paint on canvas and then we are going to hang them up in our house so that our house has some decoration in it. It was a lot of fun and we got to hang out with some people that we do not normally hang out with on a regular basis. There are some pictures from that night. One of the paintings is entitled the Bellybutton, it is really cool. Another painting a 5 year old did and it is of a giraffe with an avocado on it's back.

Last weekend we drove our motorbikes into Lippo and went to a 70's party. My dress was more like a prairie home extravaganza dress not really from the 70's but I added some beads and called it good. I love any reason to get dressed up in a ridiculous outfit and have a party. I have also added some pictures from that night and from our journey home. We had to stop at a Bengkel (mechanic) and get one of the bikes fixed so there is a picture from that as well. Whenever we are driving, all of the men tell me to be careful and to be safe. They do not tell anyone else. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that I was wearing a cardigan on the last trip or what.

Ruby the Motorbike

I got a new motorbike this past week so that I can actually go places on the motorbike. Not that my old one was not cutting it but, she was just not cutting it. In order to break Ruby in I decided that it would be a good idea to drive her to Lippo Karawaci. It took us 5 hours to get there. There was lots of traffic and we had to stop a couple of times to take off and on rain gear and to stop and ask for directions. That is a long time. It was a lot of fun though. On our way back from Lippo we drove into church, and then went home. In under a week I have gone around 160 miles on the bike. That is like going from Grand Rapids to Trinity to put it into perspective. Here are some pictures of the bike.

I have not gone on strike

I am so sorry that I have not let you known what is going on in my life. I know that you all check everyday to see what is new in Indonesia. Well, since I have last posted I went to the states for Christmas Holiday. I have come back to Indonesia, and started the 2nd semester of school. I got 1 new student which brings me to a full class of 11. I know hold onto your hats. I have also driven into Jakarta, and Cibubor on a motorbike. I was going to go hang gliding but it was too rainy and foggy so I could not, but it is still something that I will do. We also went to a janky ropes course to see the mountains, and I sat in the letter 'S' and watched the sunset. Today I went to the fresh market to buy my groceries I went swimming and then sat by the pool for a little while just to touch up on my brown color. I have to keep that up don't you know. This week I am getting a new motorbike and going to a 70's party. That is kind of about it. I have been staying plenty busy with school and having fun.New Years Resolution- To have more fun.
