First Week of School

I finished my first week of being an adult, and it is actually okay. Being an adult for a week has not been to difficult. Teaching has been a lot of fun. I have 10 students, 3 boys, and 7 girls. As a class we have been doing a lot of different things, and always singing songs. The other day I reenacted the creation story with tissues, fish, and a bottle of water. The students seemed to really enjoy it. By the end of the story they could tell me what was created every day. My co-teacher and I decided that she would teach Math and I would do Biblical Studies. It seems like a pretty fair trade-off to me. I am glad that God put a Math lover in my class as my teaching partner. In Grade 5 English I am only teaching them twice a week. This week we are going to play telephone pictionary and work on sentence structure.

The picture has nothing to do with my current status but I did not want you to forget what I look like.

First Day of School

Today was my first day of school and I have pictures to prove it. It ended up being a great day. I have 11 students in my class, and only 10 showed up today. Throughout the day we learned about each other and about the classroom as well. We worked with patterns, read a story, told the creation story, created the rules of the classroom, went over jobs of the classroom, had 2 breaks, and a lunch. The students were really good. The boys are really funny and the girls are more shy. The day went a lot better then I had expected.

One boy asked me if I would help him tuck in his shirt. I told him no, and said that he should figure out how to do it himself. He proceded to drop his trousers, and try to tuck in his shirt. He did pretty well until he had to zip his pants back up, another boy in the class helped him. It was really funny to watch the whole thing play out. Tomorrow I actually have real plans for the students, so we will see how the day goes.

Virtual Tour of the Classroom

Here is my classroom. I thought that I would let you see my classroom through the eyes of me. There is commentary as well. It is a little long, but completely worth it. Enjoy my Grade One classroom. Mom, will you please make sure that Grandma sees this since I give her a shout-out or rather her buttons.
